Holidays are such a fun time to break out a special meal for the kids. Still, no parent in their right mind wants to spend hours inside on a sunny summer day just to make something the kids are going to gobble up in a matter of minutes, right?
Today we’ve got a fun, simple and healthy breakfast idea to get your Fourth of July started on the right foot. The kids will be super impressed, and it will only take you a few minutes to whip up – in fact, the kids can help every step of the way.
That’s it! You’ll have a patriotic treat so good you should probably buy two to three boxes of waffles to keep the whole family happy!
- Homestyle Belgian Waffles
- Greek Yogurt Sauce
- Start by popping a couple of Van’s Belgian waffles into the toaster. While they’re cooking, fill a few small bowls with blueberries, finely chopped strawberries, and finely chopped bananas. Next, have the kids help you make a simple and delicious Greek yogurt sauce.
- There are no measurements necessary for this topping. Just scoop a few heaping spoonfuls of plain Greek yogurt into a bowl and stir in some milk. Use less milk for a whipping cream like consistency and more for a syrup-like consistency. The last step is to stir in a little honey for sweetness.
- Now’s the fun part – time to make some flags! Use four blueberries in the upper right corner of the waffle for the stars section. Then get those little fingers to help you fill the rest of the waffle with alternating rows of strawberries and bananas. (If your kiddos aren’t fans of strawberries or bananas, raspberries and blonde raspberries work well too.) The last step is to drizzle on a little of the Greek yogurt sauce.
