It seems like every year, Super Bowl celebrations go just a little farther over the top – and we’re not even addressing the half-time performances. Stakes (or steaks, as the case may be) get raised far from the playing field, as fans just about everywhere compete in calorie compilation and creative munching.
But contrary to popular behavior, watching football does not have to be harmful to your health. With that in mind, we’ve combed the web for some healthier alternatives to traditional Super Bowl fare – and we think you’ll like them at least as much as the commercials.
From the folks at YumSugar, these black bean and sweet potato cakes
look divine – and way more interesting than been there, done that potato chips & dip. Speaking of beans, this meat-free chili recipe
from the folks at EatingWell sounds delicious. The serving suggestion to add a dollop of low-fat sour cream, nonfat plain yogurt or a sprinkling of Cheddar cheese must be mentioned, too, for our Packers Cheesehead fans out there.
EatingWell also has some better-for-you Onion Rings
made with whole wheat bread crumbs and baked rather than fried. How’s that for the perfect Super Bowl snack? –
Finally, we think your kids will go nuts for these cucumber snakes
– if you can keep the adults away from them, that is.
