Americans are notorious for our lack of commitment to sleep, but a recent
study adds to the mounting evidence that we need to take sleep more seriously.
The study, reported in the Los Angeles Times, showed that even a full 10 hours of catch-up sleep wasn’t enough to refresh people after several nights of too little shuteye.
The adults in the study did recover substantially as a result of the 10-hour night of sleep. But even several days later they still suffered attention lapses and fatigue, felt sleepier than normal and had slower reaction times.
Though previous studies suggest that a 10-hour night of sleep can return people to normal levels of alertness, the study concluded that you’re body’s natural rhythms make it difficult to fully recover after only one night.
How do you make sure you’re getting enough sleep?
