Ancient grains have been generating increased attention in recent months, with one in particular surging in popularity. Quinoa, a South American favorite for thousands of years, has come stateside and is making quite an impression on foodies across the country, as outlined in a piece from the
Richmond Times-Dispatch.
Pronounced KEEN-wah, quinoa is a nutritional superstar that we at Van’s have been talking about for
quite some time, since it’s high in fiber, protein, B vitamins and minerals. Plus, it’s wheat and gluten free! Quinoa is perfect as a rice or pasta substitute or in your salads.
Once found only at natural food stores, quinoa is now available at even the largest of big box stores – and, as it happens, in several of Van’s breakfast offerings, including Van’s 8 Whole Grains Pancakes, 8 Whole Grains Waffles, and our 8 Whole Grains English Muffins.
It’s encouraging to read about a healthy whole grain moving from exotic to mainstream. Have you got a favorite way to enjoy quinoa? We’d love to hear about it in the comments!
