We wrote recently about the difference that food pantries can make in the lives of those who need them. Last week, several of us at Van's got to experience for ourselves the joy of giving back.
Our CEO, Eric, has been looking for ways our Van's team can serve families in need in our community. So this year, our team's holiday activity was to serve a meal at a local family shelter.
We prepped and served lunch – and had lots of fun in the process. (There's nothing like chopping fruits and grilling sandwiches with your colleagues to build camaraderie). We also provided gifts for a family of three that Van's adopted for the holidays, and gave a donation to the shelter to fund supplies and additional food through the holidays. Seeing the faces of those we helped is something we'll remember for a long time.
But giving in person isn't the only way Van's gives back. We also donate on a larger scale, through institutions like the Greater Chicago Food Depository, where we donated over 600 pounds of frozen waffles this year. In the same way, Van's donated nearly 130,000 Waffle Sticks to the LA Regional Food Bank, to fill their freezers and provide a healthy, nutritious breakfast for those in need.
We at Van's are all about healthy living, and giving the gift of a nutritious, delicious start to the day is something we can all feel great about.
