Worried your kids’ minds are going to mush from too much heat and sun – and maybe too much screen time? We thought the dog days of summer might be the perfect time to share some tips on brain-healthy eating – what your family can eat to nourish those noggins even when it’s hot and sticky outside, and there aren’t any tests on the horizon.
Some of our favorite
brain-healthy foods?
• Dark-skinned fruits and veggies. They’ve got antioxidants that are believed to
prevent brain damage. Some yummy summer options include spinach, broccoli, beets, corn, red bell peppers, prunes, blackberries, strawberries, oranges and cherries.
• Cold water fish containing beneficial omega-3 fatty acids – like halibut, mackerel, salmon, trout and tuna.
• Nuts like almonds, pecans and walnuts. They offer vitamin E, an antioxidant
associated with brain health.
